It hasn't started already as it has depended on another room downstairs being ready; so all the stuff in the nursery can move in there! It's been slower progress downstairs than we hoped: life got in the way, but now it's nearing an end, I can get the junk out if the nursery and get out the paint brush!
These shelves are on the plinth at the moment, another storage solution is needed here! |
The signed Chelsea pictures are going!! (not sure where to though!) |
This is the current state of the nursery and this is the slightly clearer version! I had a clear out yesterday, moved the filing cabinet out and most of my work books and files have gone. I think most if the things in here now are baby related- it just needs major organisation!
As you can see, it's not the biggest room in the world! Annoyingly it has a raised plinth in one corner, (where the stairs need extra height underneath) so it's even more restrictive with furniture layout than it would be. I think we've sorted it out, the cot will stay where it is and the changing unit (from Harrison's room) will be put near the door. I found this amazing rocking/ gliding chair on eBay and got it for a bargain price! Luckily the lady selling it was local and didn't get any bids, so a deal was struck!
The colour scheme has been dictated by the curtains, which are staying. Yellows, lime, aqua, orange and a bit of pink (of course!).
I have already bought lots of lovely bits to accessorise the nursery, including these fabulous storage baskets: made with Ollie owl fabric off a little place on Facebook. They were made to order from Masters and Mathews.
Julie Williamson Designs - via facebook. |
These prints are gorgeous, I also found them on Facebook from Julie Williamson Designs, they will hang above the cot. I also plan of adding some gorgeous fabric in an embroidery hoop and some other pictures too.
One owl block - there will be four on the finished quilt. |
I am part way through making my baby quilt with a new owl/ bird house block design that I have created (inspired by others I have seen). I hope I get this finished by DD! I am going to back it with lovely soft fleece and bind it with brushed cotton aqua polka dots for an extra cozy feel. It's only a small quilt though; a moses basket or car seat quilt!
The wall sticker will go on this wall. You can just see the curtains. |
We decided to go for a big wall sticker for the wall opposite the cot, it's a (predictable maybe) tree and branch with an owl and forest animals in multi-colours. I got this off ebay as well. Hopefully it's not too overpowering when it's up!
I have toyed with the idea of painting the walls a duck egg or aqua colour, but as its such a small space (and we are running out of time!) I think I'll just touch up the crisp white that's already there.
*I wrote this post earlier and didn't publish it! But just been and painted the window frame in the nursery a nice crisp white. It's actually very relaxing; painting woodwork!
Have you had a DIY weekend?
Happy Bank Holiday!
